Dartmouth College Phalanx (1834-1845)

 

Biography

The Dartmouth College Phalanx was founded in 1834 in response to a temporary state act requiring military duty of all New Hampshire man over the age of 18. It was part of the 23rd New Hampshire Regiment, using drills, processions and parades to instill military pride in the students. It was disbanded in 1845.
