White River (Vermont) Congregational Association

Biography

The Ministerial Associations, formed by pastors and other ministers for mutual fellowship and helpfulness, were the earliest organizations in the state other than the churches themselves. The Windham Association was formed in 1775, the Rutland in 1788, and others soon after. These Associations have always examined and licensed candidates for the min- istry. However, since the beginning of the 20th century Ministerial Associations have become merely professional clubs without ecclesiastical importance.
