Biography

The Department of Sociology was created in 1833 as the Department of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy. It offered its first course during the 1893-1894 school year. In 1911 the sociological curriculum is drastically expanded. David Collin Wells was the first instructor of Sociology.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains student papers, lab reports, lecture notes, correspondence, recordings, and curricular materials and evaluations for courses within the Department of Sociology. 20 boxes of Professor George Theriault's course on Human Relations (Sociology 27 and 37) as well as chairman, subject and faculty files are also included.
