Society in Scotland for Propogating Christian Knowledge
Biography
The Society was founded in 1701 by by Thomas Bray, Sir Humphrey Mackworth, Colonel Maynard Colchester, Lord Guilford and John Hooke for work in the Scotish Highlands. It was chartered in 1709, and got into support of the Indian missions in 1730 because of a bequest made for that purpose. The Edinburgh Society supported Stockbridge and missions to the Iroquis country. The Society financially supported Moor’s Indian Charity School, founded by Eleazar Wheelock in Lebanon, Connecticut in 1754.
