Biography
Passed in 1958, the National Defense Education Act provided funding in various areas of education, including support for improvement and change in elementary and secondary education. In 1965, Dartmouth College proposed, and received funding for, a summer institute for high school teachers of United States History. The program was held for four years.

Collection comprises correspondence, memoranda, financial accounts and budgets, lists of participants, and reports documenting the planning and operation of the NDEA Summer Institutute for High School Teachers of United States History. Also includes Dartmouth College's proposal for the Instiute submitted to the United States Office of Education.
