Biography
The department was founded in 1823. Daniel Oliver was the first instructor of Philosophy. In 1879 the Stone Professorship of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy was founded.

The collection contains departmental history including curriculum, majors, and other documents prepared for a review of the Dept. of philosophy. Student research papers (not the product of the department's honors program) submitted to the department of Philosophy are also included.
