Biography

The committee on Defense Instruction was appointed by the Board of Trustees in 1941. It was granted broad powers over the curriculum. Students were permited to capitalize upon their courses of instruction to give them a greater degree of preparedness, something that the existing American Defense Dartmouth Group did not have the authority to do.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, and reports and memoranda of the Committee on Defense Instruction. The committee was charged with relating the Dartmouth College curriculum to the war emergency. Several letters from members of the Division of Social Sciences commenting on the Committee's recommendations are also included.
