Dartmouth College. Office of Business Affairs
Biography
In 1984 the office of the Business manager was renamed the Office of Business Affairs and reported to the President’s office. A reorganization in 1988 had the Office reporting to the Vice President and Treasurer. The Office of Business Affairs was responsible for risk management, records management, buildings and grounds, heating and electric plants, events management, dining services, the Hanover Inn, and purchasing.
A reorganization in 1993 resulted in the creation of separate departments to oversee many of the responsibilities previously allocated to the Office of Business Affairs, leaving the Office still reporting to the Office of the Vice President and Treasurer, but responsible only for risk management, environmental health and safety, records management, and purchasing. Facilities Operations and Management, as well as Dining Services, and the Hanover Inn, were created as independent organizational units under the Office of the Vice President and Treasurer. In 1994, Purchasing and Environmental Health and Safety were allocated as separate departments, leaving the Office of Business Affairs with responsibility for only risk management and records management. In 1997, the Office of Business Affairs was renamed the Office of Administrative Services. It retained responsibility for risk management and records management, and assumed responsibility for the management of the DA$H program. In 1998 the office was returned to the name Office of Business Affairs with no change in organizational responsibility.
In 1999, the position of Director of Business affairs was discontinued and its previous holder, Marcia Colligan, was appointed Director of Risk Management. The Office of Business Affairs retained its title, but its responsibilities were limited to risk management and the College Travel Office. Oversight of Records Management was transferred to the Libraries. In 2002, the Office of Business Affairs was renamed the Integrated Risk Management and Insurance Office, and responsibility for the College Travel Office was discontinued.
