Dartmouth Players
Biography
The Dartmouth Players were founded in 1892 by students interested in the classical drama. Their policy was to produce only a few shows, but have those shows be of the best quality. The Players were organized in three parts, acting, management and production. The president, vice president, and secretary were usually chosen from those who had actually appeared on stage. The business manager, who had complete control over tickets, orders, bills, conduct of trips etc. was chosen by a general managerial competition of the Council on Student Organizations. The manager was always a Senior under the supervision of the Graduate Manager of the Council. The Players also had a publicity manager, and a student director who was under the supervision of a faculty member. The production staff included a stage manager, property manager, costume manager, art director, head electrician and their assistants, all chosen by competition. Men from all classes were eligible to this competition. In addition to their own productions, the Players also sponsored outside Companies in Hanover.
