John McCoy Family

 

Biography

John McCoy (d.1867). Farmer from West Hinchinbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Enlisted in 1864 at Danvers, MA to fight in the US Civil War without informing his wife of his actions. McCoy served as a private in Company E of the 2nd Regiment Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Volunteers. Serving in North Carolina, McCoy was stricken with illness and was ordered to convalesce in a military hospital in Rhode Island. He was discharged and died two years later.

Abstract

The John McCoy Family papers contain letters, discharge papers, and pension payment records. The letters describe John McCoy's time stationed in North Carolina as well as at other installations and include descriptions of his ongoing health problems and other family and financial problems.
