Moffett family

 

Biography

Walter Clayton Moffett was born in 1879, in Dover, Delaware. He was converted to the Adventist faith in 1897, and went to work as a bible salesman for the sect. In 1906, he married Laura Mabel Kennedy. Moffett was ordained in 1911, and embarked on a ministerial career that lasted over 50 years. Laura Mabel Kennedy was born in 1881, near Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She was a ministerial student at Mt. Vernon College, Ohio, where she was teaching, when she met Walter. After their marriage, Laura Mabel gave up teaching and lent her full support to her husband's ministerial career. She also raised two daughters, Frances Marion and Virginia. After her death in 1967, Walter married Promise J. Kloss. Walter died in 1976 and Promise in 2003. Virginia Moffett Caldwell was born October 19, 1919. She married Andrew Fletcher in 1941, and after her divorce, Erskine Caldwell in 1957.

Other members of the family include Frances Mildred Kennedy, Laura Mabel's sister, Frank Wesley Moffett, Walter's brother, and Robert Bruce Kennedy, Laura Mabel's brother.
