Biography

Leverett Saltonstall was born on June 13, 1783 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University in 1892 after which he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1895. He set up practice in Salem, Massachusetts the same year. Saltonstall went on to become a member of the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, President of the Massachusetts Senate, the first Mayor of Salem, Massachusetts and a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard College. He died on May 8, 1845.
