Biography

A 1937 graduate of Dartmouth, William H. Timbers was a senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Manhattan. After attending Dartmouth, Timbers received his law degree from Yale Law School and worked in the law offices of Davis, Polk, Wardwell, Sutherland & Kiendl before becoming a partner at Cummings & Lockwood. He was appointed to the appeals court in 1971 by Richard Nixon and became a senior judge in 1981. In addition to his work as a judge, Timbers also raised, trained, and showed Norwegian Elkhound dogs, and was president of the Norwegian Elkhound Association of America.
