Biography

Nicholas Emery (September 4, 1776 – August 24, 1861) was an American lawyer, politician, and judge who served as an Associate Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court from October 22, 1834, to October 21, 1841. Emery was born in Exeter, New Hampshire. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy starting at the age of twelve in 1788 and in 1795 graduated from Dartmouth College. He read law with Edward St. Loe Livermore to gain admission to the bar.Emery taught at Phillips Exeter for a year in 1797, with Daniel Webster being one of his students, before beginning his legal practice in Parsonsfield, Maine.
