Biography
James Willis Patterson was born on July 2, 1823. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1848 and was a professor of mathematics, astronomy and meteorology at Dartmouth from 1854 to 1865. In 1862, he was a member of the New Hamsphire House of Representatives. From 1867 to 1873, Patterson served in the US Senate where he was chairman of the Committee on Enrolled Bills and a member of the Committee on the District of Columbia. He died on May
