Biography
Joseph Edward Hood was born on October 24, 1815 in Amesbury, Massachusetts. He was was from 1844 to 1849 one of the leading anti-slavery editors of New Hampshire, and for fifteen years chief assistant editor of the Springfield (Massachusetts) Republican.
