McLane, John Roy, 1886-1969
Biography
John Roy McLane was born on January 7, 1886, in Milford, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1907, and as a Rhodes Scholar attended Oxford University in 1909. He received his law degree from Harvard in 1912, and opened a law firm in Manchester, New Hampshire the same year. Always interested in community service, McLane helped found the New Hampshire Children's Aid Society in 1914, and served as a Treasurer until 1953, when he became president of the society. He was a trustee of St. Paul's School in Concord, and of Dartmouth College from 1926-1956, Chairman of the New Hampshire State Board of Arbitration and Conciliation, Justice of the Peace and Notary Public for many years, and served on the Board of Directors of the National Life Insurance Company. McLane died in 1969.
