Childs, Francis Lane, 1884-1973

 

Biography

Francis Lane Childs was born on December 18, 1884, in Henniker, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1906, and became an instructor of English at the College in 1909. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1914, and was promoted to full professor in 1920, a position he held until his retirement in 1954. In 1961, he received an honorary degree from Dartmouth College. Childs died on August 26, 1973 in Hanover, NH.

Abstract

Francis Lane Childs (1884-1973), professor of English. Dartmouth College Class of 1906. The collection consists of family correspondence, course materials, Class of 1906 records and memorabilia as well as research material, manuscripts and galley proofs for his book, "Hanover, New Hampshire."
