Biography

US Congressman. Born in West Bradford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, he read law and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1833. He began a successful private practice in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and served as Chester County District Attorney from 1845 to 1846. In 1854 he was elected as an Anti-Lecompton Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives
