Biography

David E. Birney was born on April 23, 1939 in Washington, DC. He graduated with a B.A. In English from Dartmouth College in 1961, and received his M.A. in Theatre from UCLA. Birney worked continually in the theatre but also built a career in movies, series and miniseries for television, including "Bridget Loves Birney" (1972-1973), "Oh God! Book II" (1980) and "St. Elsewhere." Birney married actress Meredith Baxter in 1974. They had starred together in the 1972–73 TV series "Bridget Loves Bernie." During their marriage, she was known as Meredith Baxter Birney. Together, they had three children: Kate, Mollie, and Peter. They divorced in 1989. David Birney passed away on April 29, 2022.
