Joseph Messer Clough (June 15, 1828 – May 7, 1919) was a Union Army lieutenant colonel during the American Civil War, who was appointed and confirmed to the grade of brevet brigadier general of volunteers in 1866.

Joseph Messer Clough correspondence, includes extracts from letters to his wife describing life in 4th and 18th New Hampahire Volunteers. Praises conduct of Negro troops at siege of Charleston. Includes one letter of A.B. Clough on the assassination of Lincoln, and of a visit to the prison where the assassins were confined.
