Biography

Ezra Eastman Adams (1813–1871. He grad­u­at­ed from Dart­mouth Col­lege, Han­o­ver, New Hamp­shire, in 1836, and in 1840 be­came chap­lain to the sea­men at Le Havre, France. After serv­ing there 10 years, he made an ex­ten­sive tour in Euro­pe, then re­turned to Am­er­i­ca. In 1854, Ad­ams be­came pas­tor of the Pearl Street Con­gre­ga­tion­al Church in Nash­ua, New Hamp­shire.

In 1860, he be­came sec­re­ta­ry of the Am­er­i­can and For­eign Chris­tian Un­ion in Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia, and lat­er pas­tor of the New School Pres­by­ter­ian Church in Phi­la­del­phia.

From 1867 un­til his death, Ad­ams was pro­fes­sor of La­tin and Rhe­tor­ic at Lin­coln Un­i­ver­si­ty, near Ox­ford, Penn­syl­van­ia.
