Biography

John Edward Weems was born in 1924, in Grand Prairie, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas with Bachelors and Masters degrees in journalism in 1948 and 1949, respectively. In 1954, he also received an MA in Library Science from Florida State University. Weems had a diverse career and served in the Navy, worked at several Texas newspapers, was an assistant professor in journalism at Baylor University, University of Alabama, and professor of English at Baylor University. He was also a prolific writer and published many books and articles including "Peary: The Explorer and the Man" a study of the personal life of the first man to reach the North Pole. Weems died on September 22, 1999.
