Popini, Eloise McCaskill

 

Biography

Eloise McCaskill Popini was a research assistant and collaborator of Vilhjalmur Stefansson. She translated "De Mensura Oribis Terrae," a geographical compilation created by the Irish monk Dicuil in 825. She researched early exploration and colonization of Greenland, Iceland and the North American mainland for an introduction to "The Three Voyages of Martin Frobisher."

Abstract

Eloise McCaskill Popini, researcher and translator. Consist of Popini's drafts of her translation of "Dicuili liber de mensura orbis terrae," as well as an introduction to the work, and a typed transcript of the Latin text. Research notes, correspondence, and mss. for the introduction and appendices for "The three voyages of Martin Frobisher" are also included.
