Biography

Born in Rockingham, Vermont, a graduate from the Newbury Seminary, Dartmouth College and Albany Law School. Enlisted in the Union Army as a Private for three months, was Second Lieutenant Co. H, 4th Vermont. First Lieutenant Co. I, for two years on detached service as Signal Officer. Commissioned Captain Co. H, 6th Vermont and discharged from service for wounds received at Battle of the Wilderness. Practiced law in Syracuse since 1872. Was Dean of Syracuse University College of Law from its organization in 1895. Trustee of Syracuse University 29 years. President Y.M.C.A. 10 years, Trustee of University Church since 1875. A.D. 1914.
