Folsom, Joseph Pitchlynn, 1823-1889
Biography
Joseph attended the Choctaw Academy in Kentucky as a teenager and then went to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where he graduated in 1854. He is listed living in a dormatory with three other Choctaw students on the 1850 census for Hanover, N.H. He is said to have married a woman who belonged to the Seneca Tribe but her name is not known and they had no children.
He became an attorney and in 1869 published a book of Choctaw laws under the direction of the Choctaw Nation Government.

Three-page letter from Joseph Pitchlynn Folsom at Boggy Depot, C.N. to Asa Dodge Smith, telling him that he is sending an Indian boy, Albert Carney, to be educated in Hanover. If he had had time, he could have selected one or two more youths.
