Biography

Lady Jane Franklin was born in London on December 4, 1791. A well educated traveler she married John Franklin in 1828, after the death of his first wife whose friend she had been. In 1845, Lord Franklin set out on his last voyage and disappeared. Lady Franklin spent the next years trying to discover what had happened to him. To that extent, she sponsored seven expeditions between 1850 and 1875. Lady Franklin died in 1875.
