Biography

William E. Scollard grew up in White Plains, New York. After gradauting from White Plains High School, he attended Dartmouth College as a cadet in the Navy V-12 unit. While at Dartmouth, he was a member of Sigma Nu and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated cum laude in 1947, then went on to earn an M.S. in Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth in 1948 and an M.B.A. from Harvard in 1950. From 1950 to 1991, he worked at Ford Motor Company, becoming Executive Vice President for North American manufacturing operations by the time of his retirement. He served on the Board of Overseers for the Thayer School for many years, and after his retirement taught engineering at Thayer as an adjunct professor.

Content Description

Letters and ephemera extracted from a scrapbook documenting the life of William E. Scollard (D' 47 Th '48). The materials document his time as a Dartmouth College student, particularly his membership in the Sigma Nu fraternity. Of note is a letter to his parents detailing his fraternity initiation.
