Biography

Margaret Elder Dow, a graduate of Vassar College, published a biography of her father, Samuel J. Elder, in 1925. She also held a lifelong interest in the life of Dr. Elisha Kent Kane, the Arctic explorer and spend the years 1926-1962, extensively researching and writing numerous manuscripts of his life. None of her manuscripts were published, and she was writing a final version at the time of her death in 1962.

Abstract

Margaret Elder Dow, died in 1962. Consist of papers, correspondence and manuscripts relating to her research on Elisha Kent Kane and the Grinnell Expeditions. Collection also contains correspondence and manuscripts by Herma Briffault, a friend and researcher on the Arctic.
