Biography

Jeanette Mirsky was born in 1903, in Bradley Beach, New Jersey. She graduated from Barnard College in 1924. From her first book "To the North: The Story of Arctic Exploration From the Earliest Times to the Present," published in 1934, to her last book "Aurel Stein: Archaeological Explorer, " published in 1977, Mirsky focused her attention on trailblazers of various kind. She was a member of PEN, the international organization of writers and a recipient of grants and fellowships from Guggenheim, Rockefeller and the National Endowment for the Arts. For many years, Mirsky also contributed to the "The New York Times Book Review." Mirsky died on March 20, 1987.
