Milovsoroff, Basil, 1906-1992

 

Biography

Basil Milovsoroff was born on Dec. 31, 1906 in Verch-Anyysk, Siberia. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1932 and was hired by Dartmouth College in 1958 as a member of the Russian Language Department. He served as its chairman from 1963-1967. He also headed the Russian Language Institute. He retired as Professor of Russian Language and Literature Emeritus in 1972. He died in 1992 in Hartford, VT.

Abstract

Basil Milovsoroff, Professor of Russian Language and Literarure Emeritus 1958-1972. Oral history interview documenting his career at Dartmouth College. Milovsoroff assesses the instruction and growth of the Russian department and the Institute. He also discusses the promotion and linkage to reorganization of department and program. Finally, he speaks of the curriculum and its associated problems.
