Fred Perkins was born on May 15, 1898 in Malden, Mass. He graduated from Harvard in 1921 and was hired by Dartmouth College as a member of the Mathematics Department in 1927. He also served as the chairman of the department from 1939-1943 and 1951-1955. He retired as Professor of Mathematics Emeritus in 1964. Fred Perkins died in Hanover, NH in 1984.

Scope and Contents The oral history interview of Fred Perkins is comprised of one audiocassette recording and a tape log of the recording. The interview was conducted by Arthur M. Wilson on Nov. 11, 1974 in Hanover, NH. The entire interview runs for approximately one hour. Professor Perkins talks about the Math Department in the 1920s and 1930s and the changing trends in instruction, the disagreements in the department along with the Chairmanship of the Math Department and the graduate program.
