Biography

John Williams was born on Nov. 12, 1897 in Boston, Massachusetts. After service in World War I, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1919. From 1919-1927, he was a graduate student at Harvard University where he received the degree of AM in 1922 and PhD in 1927. Williams was hired as a member of the History Department in 1926. He retired as Professor of History Emeritus in 1964 and died in 1988.

Abstract

John Robert Williams (1897-1988), professor of history. Dartmouth College Class of 1919. The collection contains student notebooks from his days as a graduate student in history at Harvard University, teaching materials as a member of the history faculty at Dartmouth College, materials relating to his class reunion activities, and research notes and essays relating to his work as a medieval intellectual historian.
