Biography

Richard Barksdale Harwell was born on June 6, 1915 in Washington, DC. He held degrees from Emory University (1937 and 1938), New England College (1966) and Wofford College (1987). A librarian, bibliographer, and historian, Harwell authored and edited numerous books relating to the Civil War and especially to the Confederacy including "The Mint Julep" and "The Civil War Reader: Union Reader and Confederate Reader." Harwell died in 1988.
