Hay, John, 1915-2011

 

Biography

John Hay was born on August 31, 1915 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. He was an author, naturalist, and conservation activist. Hay co-founded the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, Massachusetts and served as its president from 1955 to 1980. Publications include "A beginner's faith in things unseen" (1995) and "Mind the Gap: The Education of a Nature Writer" (2004).Hay died on February 26, 2011.

Abstract

"In Defense of Nature" (1969). The collection contains the typescript with handwritten corrections of "In Defense of Nature" by John Hay. A Letter from Hay to Prof. Alan Gaylord offering his manuscript to Dartmouth College is also included.
