Biography

Robert Kenneth Carr was born on February 15, 1908 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1929. He received a PhD from Harvard in 1935. While completing his doctoral studies, Carr taught at the University of Oklahoma Norman. He joined the department of government at Dartmouth in 1937 and remained there until 1960 when he left to serve as the president of Oberlin College. Carr clashed repeatedly with the students at Oberlin regarding issues related to the Vietnam War and was forced to resign as President in November 1970. He died in 1979.

Abstract

Robert K. Carr (1908-1979), professor of political science and scholar. Dartmouth College Class of 1929. The collection contains typescripts for four of his books, "State Control of Local Finance in Oklahoma" (1937), "The Supreme Court and Judicial Review" (circa 1942), "Democracy and the Supreme Court" (circa 1936) and "Shield and Sword" (circa 1951).
