Biography

Thomas Bird Mosher was born in Biddeford Maine in 1852. Mosher attended the Quincy Grammar School in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating at age 12. He then spent several years accompanying his father on voyages, including an 1866 trip around Cape Horn. In 1870, Mosher returned to New England and held a series of jobs in Portland, St. Louis, New York City and Philadelphia. He published his first book in 1891, a poem entitled "Modern Love" by George Meredith. By 1895, Mosher had had published 16 books, and decided to sell his stationery business and publish full-time. When he died in 1923, he had published 783 books.
