Elkins, Frank, 1910-1973

 

Biography

Frank Elkins was born in New York City in 1910. He graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a physical‐edutation student at New York University for two years. In 1928, he began as a copy boy in the sports department of the "Times" where he became interested in skiing. Elkins's news coverage and his other writings on skiing, including “World Ski Book,” which he co‐edited, relped popularize the sport. After leaving the Times, he continued to write a ski column for "The Long Isand Press." Elkins died in 1973.
