Hoyt, Albert Harrison, 1826-1915

 

Biography

Albert Harrison Hoyt was born in 1826 in Sandwich, New Hampshire. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1850, studied and practiced law in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was also a paymaster in the army during the Civil War, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. After the peace Hoyt became the editor of the "New England Historical and Genealogical Register" (1868–1876) and of "Memorial Biographies," volume iv (1885). In 1875, he was elected a member of the American Antiquarian Society. Hoyt died in 1915.

Albert Harrison Hoyt (1826-1915),lawyer. The collection contains essays on astronomy, the Appalachian Mountains and various aspects of New England history by Albert Harrison Hoyt. Transcripts of 17th century documents as well as some papers of Charles W. Tuttle are also included.
