Robert William Chambers was born on May 26, 1865 in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated at the Arts Students' League and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, and at Académie Julian, in Paris from 1886-1893. On his return to New York, he succeeded in selling his illustrations to "Life," "Truth," and "Vogue" magazines. Chambers published his first novel "In the Quarter"in 1894. Other publications include "The King in Yellow" (1895), "The Haunts of Men" (1898) and "The Tree of Heaven (1907). Chambers died on December 16, 1933.
