Biography
Carl Sadakichi Hartman was born on November 8, 1867 in Nagasaki, Japan. He was raised in Germany and came to the United States in 1882. Hartmann was an art and photography critic and poet. Publications include "Drifting Flowers of the Sea and Other Poems" (1904), "My Rubaiyat" (1913) and "Japanese Rhythms." His works of criticism include "Shakespeare in Art" (1901) and "Japanese Art" (1904). Hartmann died on November 22, 1944.

Sadakichi Hartman (1867-1944), art and photography critic and poet. The collection contains Sadakichi Hartmann's correspondence with Frederick P. Hier, Harold G. Rugg, Egmont Arens, Guy Bogart, and Atma D. Hartmann as well as the manuscripts of his books "Japanese Rhythms" (1933) and "Naked Ghosts" (1935).
