Biography
Richard Lang was born on June 25, 1769 in Salem , Massachusetts. By 1789 he owned a store in Hanover, New Hampshire. He was one of the first successful merchant in Hanover. He received imported items from New York through Gilbert and John Aspinwall and from Salem through his brother Daniel Lang (1771-1840). Lang also became the largest individual land owner in Hanover and was twice elected selectmen of the town (1793 and 1800), chosen to be fire warden several times and in 1797 was an agent in the Dartmouth College Lottery. Hi son John graduated from Dartmouth in 1815. Lang died in 1840.
