Nathaniel Hazeltine Carter was born in September 17, 1787 in Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1811. He was an author and a teacher in Portland, Me., and Salisbury, N.H. Around 1818, Carter moved New York, where he became editor of the "Albany Register," which later became the "New York Stateman" and then the "Statesman." Carter died on January 2, 1830 in France.
