Biography
Josiah Whitney Barstow was born on June 21, 1826 in Keene, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1846 and from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1853. He was a resident physician and director at Sanford Hall, Flushing, New York, a private mental hospital. Barstow died in 1922.

Josiah W. Barstow (1826-1922), physician. Dartmouth College Class of 1846. The collection contains letters to Barstow for use in Dartmouth class notes, from such notables as G. T. Angell, J. M. Sturtevant, E. J. Warren, and E. H. Parker referencing the Know Nothing party in Massachusetts, the Nashville Blind School and Boston's School for the Blind, later known as Perkins Institute.
