Biography

William Frederick Geiger was born on January 23, 1870 in Peoria, Illinois. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1892 after which he returned to Peoria to teach Latin, German, physics and chemistry in in the high school. In 1895, he became principal of Quincy High School. He stayed at the administrative level of teaching, holding the principalship at several schools, until 1931 when President Hopkins invited him to be Professor of Education at Dartmouth College. Geiger stayed at Dartmouth until his retirement in 1940. However, he returned briefly to the College during World War II. Geiger died in January 1967.

Abstract

William F. Geiger (1870-1967), professor of education.Dartmouth College Class of 1892. The collection contains student letters written by Geiger while he was at Dartmouth College and while working at Sunset Hill House and as a teacher during his summers off.
