Biography

J.W. Smith was born on September 21, 1863 in Grafton New Hampshire. He attended Dartmouth College from 1885 to 1888 for a degree in Agriculture and Mechanical Arts. He became a signal corpsman in the US War Department in 1888, then became a weather forecaster for the US Weather Bureau in 1891. He was married to Florence Eaton until her death in 1911, then to May Goetches. He died in 1940.
