Biography
Edward P. Davis (1907-1993), collector from Charlestown, NH. His father and grandfather had worked as gardeners on the Hoyt Estate in Charlestown.
Charles Hale Hoyt was born on July 26, 1859, in Concord, NH. He graduated from Boston Latin School after which he became involved in the cattle business in Colorado before joining the St. Albans Advertiser and later, as the musical and dramatic critic, the Boston Globe. Hoyt wrote his first play, a farcical comedy in 1883. Over the next twenty years he wrote about one play per year including "A Milky White Flag" (1883) and "A Trip to Chinatown" (1891). Hoyt was also a member of a successful producing team that Included Charles W. Thomas and Frank McKee. He died on November 20, 1900.
