Biography
Robert Huntington Fletcher was born on February 18, 1875 in Hanover, New Hampshire. He graduated with an AB from Dartmouth College in 1896 and with an AM from Harvard College in 1908. He received his PhD from Harvard in 1901. While he was pursuing his degrees, Fletcher worked as a teacher and principle of the high school at Newport, New Hampshire. After travel in Europe he became acting professor of English at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1909, after a prolonged illness and employment at Butler College, Indianapolis, Fletcher became professor of English literature at Grinnell College, in Iowa. He left that position in 1915 but did not resign until 1917. He died on June 26, 1919.
