Biography

Walter H. Merrill was born in 1873 in Marlborough, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1894, after which he studied medicine at Georgetown and George Washington University in Washington, DC. Merrill was one of the pioneers in the development of x-rays for medical use. In 1918, he became associated with the District Health Department, first as a part-time physician at clinics and the Upshur Street tuberculosis hospital. In 1937 Merrill joined Glen Dale Sanatorium as a full-time physician, a position from which he retired in 1949 as head of the x-ray section. Merrill died in 1952.

Abstract

Walter H. Merrill (1873-1962), physician. Dartmouth College Class of 1894. The collection contains letters from patients requesting appointments, meddical journal clippings, a patent, a reprint and handwritten papers.
