Biography
Richard Stevens Danforth was born on July 26, 1885 in Gardiner, Maine. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1908 and Chandler Scientific School in 1909. Danforth was a civil engineer and inventor who worked for industries on the West Coast before starting his own company in 1939. He developed the Danforth anchor the same year. The anchor was widely used during World war II for anchoring aircraft, pontoon bridges and LST boats. Danforth died in 1962.
